Portrait Society of America's 5th Annual Members Only Competition

5th Annual Members Only Competition: Portraits by Medium

Postmark Deadline: December 14, 2009

Exhibit Dates: April 22 – 25, 2010

In its fifth year, the Annual Members Only Competition varies each year by subject or medium. This year members can choose their medium and enter in one or more categories: Drawing, Oil, Pastel, Sculpture and Watercolor. All winners will be recognized on the Portrait Society’s website, The Art of the Portrait Journal, featured in International Artist magazine and an image of their winning work will be shown at the annual conference.

Member Benefit - Slide Critique

In the Journal of Portrait Society of America (issue 44) on page 19 there is information about a SLIDE CRITIQUE available to members. If you missed it here is the information.

1. Find the best reproduction of your work.

2. Label and send in up to 3 digital images accompanied by 4 x 6" 

prints or up to 3 slides labeled with your name, the title, size 

and medium of work.

3. Include your name, address, phone and email.

4. Enclose the $35 critique fee, slides or digital images and prints 

with a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of materials.

Cecilia Beaux Forum

 

Competition & Exhibition in 2010

Cecilia Beaux Forum will be partnering with the historic Butler Institute of American Art announced for its first exhibition honoring women artists whose work elevates modern portraiture and figurative art, to be held September 12 – October 31, 2010.  The exhibition will include historic artworks from the Butler’s collection, works by ten invited artists and selected artworks from a competition for contemporary women artists.

 

Visit our website on or after June 1, 2009 for the competition prospectus to enter the juried portion of the Forum’s exhibition. $15,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to top works in the competition.

 

Join a Committee

Do you have experience fundraising or writing grants?  Would you like to become more involved with the Cecilia Beaux Forum?  The Forum Fundraising Committee is now looking for new members.  Members of this committee will help identify potential donors, make recommendations on fundraising efforts and approach potential donors with sponsorship opportunities.  If you are interested, please fill out the committee interest form and email or fax it to the Portrait Society office.

THE ART OF PORTRAITURE

A historical look at the art of portraiture show a transition in not only the subject and style, but also the goal of the artist. From portrayals of stature, to depictions that provide reflective glimpses that reveal personality and mood, the role of the artist has always been more than just a mimic of nature. Contemporary artists continue to push the definition of the portrait. Staring Back looks to honor this transformation and highlight the ever-expanding scope and definition of the art of portraiture. This juried exhibition will be open to all media ad interpretations.
